Brain-Damaged Infant Could Receive $11.9 Million

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge, on Monday, approved a settlement in a case involving Kaiser
Permanente and Jerahmeel Howard, a brain-injured 3-year-old boy and his mother Phyllis. Physician-attorney Dr. Bruce Fagel, who represented the family says the settlement could be worth as much as $11.5 million. Fagel said the case was settled out of court because Kaiser did not want to risk a much higher judgement from a jury.
