Miguel Perez-Lizano contracted Lyme disease in May 1994 following a trip to Northern California. His dog, Bo, also contracted the disease and had to be put down. The infection was probably acquired at a highway rest area either in Oregon or Northern California. Miguel was 6 years undiagnosed and suffered severe complications that eventually totally incapacitated him. When testing and documentation was provided to Kaiser showing Lyme disease as a cause of his symptoms, Kaiser refused to diagnose (even going so far as to lie on his medical record and “misplacing” test results.) After 27 years with Kaiser Miguel had to change health plans to get help.
