Botched Cesarean Section Injured Baby, Parents Claim
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CN) – A botched cesarean left a baby with neurological injuries, her parents claim in Placer County Superior Court.
Strode, a minor, by and through her guardian ad litem and mother,
Jeanie Zairis, and Jeanie Zairis individually, sued Kaiser Foundation
Hospitals dba Kaiser Foundation Hospital – Roseville, The Permanente
Medical Group, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. for medical
malpractice and negligence. Jeanie Zairis also sued for medical
malpractice, and she and her husband, Isaiah P. Strode both sued for
negligent infliction of emotional distress.
On June 7, 2018, the incision Kaiser staff made to deliver Ruby from her mother was too small, according to the lawsuit.
“Said defendants negligently attempted vacuum extractions which failed. Said defendants further negligently failed to adequately extend the abdominal incision required by the standard of care, which resulted in the child being pulled out of her mother’s uterus by her feet, with her head stuck within the uterus, all-the-while-suffering from lack of oxygen which substantially caused profound neurological injuries,” the complaint states.
